We asked the people of Camberwell to pick their five favourite art works from the 2016 exhibition and here’s what Library Manager, Mark Rodenhurst had to say.
Camberwell Miracle, photograph by Tom Leighton
I’m a librarian. I like books. This is a beautiful photograph of a book. I like it.
Kern Baby, photograph by Sara Hannant
The domestic meets the metaphysical. A stark and unsettling image.
4 Camberwell Heads by Sally Cutler
Fantastic contemporary portraits, drawn with the thick inky lines of a 50’s British comic.
Hanky Red, a mono print by Jo de Pear
An ordinary, everyday object given genuine pathos and beauty by its delicate handling.
Amazingness #3 : High Walkway, Heygate Estate, London, SE17 photograph by Anna Hillman
Put your head to the pavement and you can see things growing on the concrete. Vivid alien beauty conjured from the mundane.
